Algonquin Arts Theatre Summer 2024 - Performing Arts Academy Classes

Performing Arts Academy (PAA) has a variety of theatre classes by semester in the areas of acting, singing, dance, storytelling, auditioning, and Internship practicum studies. All of our classes offer a suggested level of experience, as well as an age range. There is a class for everyone to explore, no matter how experienced or inexperienced.

Summer class schedule will begin the week of June 24th of 2024 through mid-August. The program will offer two-week and one-week class sessions that range in the study of Musical Theatre and Acting & Improv). Classes are exercised on the weekdays with A.M. and P.M. programming scheduled between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ages: Classes levels are determined by the school grade in which the student is enrolled in the fall. No experience necessary.

Final Showcase: Each class will host a showcase on the final day of class. Especially for our younger students, these exhibitions won't be complete or polished theatrical performances but will be a showcase of the activities from the classroom. Our classroom focus will be outside of memorization and the rehearsal process and instead will focus on skill development.

Acting & Improvisation (1st through 12th Grade) classes focus on building acting skills through acting and improvisation games and activities, ensemble exercises, movement, monologues, scene study, and more. Students learn to act serious, silly and everything in between. Teaching artist will customize the class based on the abilities of the students enrolled.

Musical Theatre (1st through 12th Grade) classes fold singing, dancing and acting. Classes will explore musical theatre dance/ movement, group and individual vocal singing and interpreting theatrical characters. Classroom activities include vocal warm-ups, scene study, and more. Teaching artist will customize the class based on the level and abilities of the students enrolled.

Intro to Theatre (Kindergarten & 1st Grade) is for students who just completed or will be entering Kindergarten in the fall, this class provides a broad introduction to theatre through age-appropriate games, stories, songs and movement. This a great chance for an introduction to the theatre.
