New Jersey Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program (NJ GEAR UP) is a federal program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education. The program is designed to prepare eligible middle and high school students to develop the skills and motivation necessary to complete high school and succeed in college.
The program exclusively serves students from Asbury Park, NJ, many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college.
The program is FREE to participants, and all expenses are paid by the GEAR UP Grant. You may apply as early as the spring semester of 6th grade. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. This means applications are reviewed and decided upon once the application is complete. It is important that you complete your application to the best of your ability and submit it as soon as possible, as there are a limited number of seats in the program.
