LEARN of the Jersey Shore - A Supported Education Service of Preferred Behavioral Health Group

LEARN (Learning Enhancement and Resource Network) is a supported education program that aims to provide educational and support services to people with psychiatric disabilities in post-secondary setting so that they can have access to and successfully utilize the educational environment.

Who is Eligible?

  • Residents of Monmouth, Ocean, or Atlantic Counties
  • are 18 years of age or older
  • have a High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • have a desire to go to college, vocational school or a certificate program
  • are capable of performing the role of student with or without accommodations
  • are currently in treatment for their psychiatric illness

What are Some Typical Services?

  • Accommodation education and advocacy
  • Academic counseling that includes choosing classes that meet the consumer's academic goals
  • Provide campus orientation and assistance with registration
  • Explore/secure funding options
  • Negotiate former student loans
  • Assistance in managing disclosure issues
  • Skill development with organizing, planning, time management, and other common college difficulties
  • Linkages to peer support groups
  • Explore transportation option
