Jim Homiak has just opened a new alternative school called "Freshman Academy", a high school transition program designed to provide each child with a more personalized experience through a rigorous and relevant interdisciplinary approach. The Academy is located at Middletown HS South.

The program is offered to General Education and Special Education students who meet any of the following criteria:

  • In grades 9-12 who are over age for their grade.
  • Failing or failed core subjects.
  • Excessive absenteeism.
  • Received multiple disciplinary referrals and suspensions.
  • Have been retained a grade at least once.
  • Demonstrating difficulty succeeding in the traditional classroom.
  • Significantly credit deficient towards graduation.
