Trinity Center for Community - Asbury Park

Welcome!

Welcome to Trinity Church! We are a dynamic and inclusive Christian congregation committed to vibrant and creative worship, a caring community, and social justice. We strive to share God’s unconditional love with all people and all of creation. We are a parish of the Episcopal Church, which is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

We offer a number of ways to serve our local community, including our Saturday Soup community meal and our Food Pantry. Our commitment to building God’s beloved community includes advocating for racial justice and LGBTQ+ equality, offering worship in multiple languages, and reaching out to those who cannot be with us in person by livestreaming our 10 am service each week over YouTube.

Racial Justice Project

Mission

The Racial Justice Project (RJP) is dedicated to advancing racial equity through education and justice work inside Trinity and in our Asbury Park community. We were founded in 2015 at Trinity.

LGBTQ Community

The Trinity faith community is a living example of what that full inclusion looks like. Our appreciation for diversity is evident in every aspect of our church life. A significant number of LGBTQ+ folks are active members of Trinity. In fact, in many ways, Trinity is ahead of the curve in a denomination that is already known for being open, inclusive, and progressive.

Housing Justice and Holistic Wellbeing

Trinity believes that housing is a human right and that all people should have safe, stable housing. We advocate for affordable housing for all, and our caseworkers assist in placing community members into housing. This housing support is made possible by your generous donations and by grants.

Trinity is also a member of the Women’s Hospitality Network, which houses women experiencing homelessness. If you are a woman looking for housing or would like to volunteer please contact Kris here. Volunteering might include setting up, staying over night to host the women, or bringing dinner for the night.

Trinity Church’s Radical Well-being Program (RWbP) is an intersectional, holistic housing program guided by the understanding that housing alone is not enough to create well-being. Well-being can only be achieved when physical and mental health, social support, treatment for and freedom from use disorders and addiction, communication skills, and financial literacy are addressed. the RWbP recognizes systemic racism, sexism, ableism, discrimination of LGBTQIAS+, and classism among other kinds of discrimination contribute to homelessness and have a significant impact on mental health.

The RWbP offers holistic, wrap-around, and preventative services either in-house or through community relationships and partnerships which provide community members with resources while addressing societal forces:

  • Permanent housing
  • Emergency housing and rapid-rehousing
  • Job training and local job placement
  • Opportunities for physical exercise in a relaxed environment
  • Community-building conversations and casual walks in the community
  • Mental health Counseling (We will give referrals to local partnerships)
  • Use Disorders and addiction counseling and meetings (We will give referrals to local partnerships)
  • Community organizing for powerful and healthy communities (with the Asbury Park Affordable Housing Coalition)
  • Financial literacy training and tax assistance
  • Craft and hobby workshops
  • Movie and game nights
  • Self-advocacy training.

Much of the work done in the radical Well Being Program is one-on-one casework. Casework almost always starts with a comprehensive and holistic intake in order to assess a community member’s needs, strengths, and background history. this approach allows us to put together a goal-driven plan based on the community members' self-determination, as well as their capabilities, strengths, and willingness. long term sustainable housing and its foundational elements such as income, jobs, and security are a priority, but the radical Well-Being Program is also stretching into life and recovery coaching as well. this involves, not only working on community member's primary needs, but also on their secondary and tertiary needs or desires.
