Habitat for Humanity partners with people in your community, and all over the world, to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With your support, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families. Through our 2020 Strategic Plan, Habitat for Humanity will serve more people than ever before through decent and affordable housing.

Coastal Habitat serves 18 cities in Southern Monmouth County: Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Avon, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Brielle, Deal, Interlaken, Lake Como, Manasquan, Neptune Twp., Oakhurst, Ocean Grove, Ocean Twp., Shark River Hills, Spring Lake and Spring Lake Heights, Sea Girt and Wall.

An Overview of Programs

Aging in Place

With seed support from the Allstate Foundation, Coastal Habitat's Aging in Place program will work to keep Southern Monmouth County seniors and veterans right where they want to be... at home.  The program will focus on property repairs crucial to independent, comfortable and dignified living, including accessibility improvements, mobility modifications, critical interior, and exterior home repairs, weatherization enhancements, and energy efficiency updates.

In addition to the projects Coastal Habitat will engage in locally, the organization will lobby on behalf of seniors and veterans on the state and federal level for more funding, awareness and assistance.

Neighborhood Revitalization

An expanded version of the organization's Brush With Kindness and Ramps & Rails programs, the Neighborhood Revitalization Program assists homeowners who cannot afford the costs of property repairs and maintenance - with the ultimate goal of keeping families in their homes and supporting entire communities.

Post-Superstorm Sandy, the Neighborhood Revitalization Program was enhanced to support homeowners impacted by the storm.

Single-Family Home Construction

The organization has constructed 14 homes in 13 communities in Southern Monmouth County. These simple, safe, and energy-efficient single-family homes are sold to qualified partner families who may not qualify for traditional financial institution financing with zero interest, 30-year loans. As well, partner families commit to hundreds of "sweat equity" hours within the organization.

Coastal Habitat was one of three nonprofits selected by the City of Asbury Park to partner within the Springwood Avenue Redevelopment Project, a long-term initiative to rebuild the city's southwest corridor.

Homeowner Education

Through targeted community outreach, Coastal Habitat supports homeowners with one-on-one and group basic home repair, maintenance and disaster preparedness education programs. These programs serve to both empower homeowners and communities to proactively repair and maintain their properties before falling into disrepair... as well as to help one's neighbor.
