Aberdeen Department of Parks & Recreation H.A.M.

The H.A.M. ;Hazlet/Holmdel/Aberdeen/Matawan Therapeutic Recreation Program is a non-profit recreation program for individuals with developmental disabilities, such as Downs Syndrome, Neurological Disorders, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, Asperger’s, Chromosome Disorders, ADHD, and numerous others. The H.A.M. Program has been around since the 1980s and keeps growing and so are the needs of our clients.

Limited public transportation, lack of education about appropriate activities for persons with disabilities, decreasing funds, and the widely dispersed populations are all obstacles to providing equal leisure activities for a person living with disabilities. The H.A.M. Program has been a vital and constant resource for participants and has more than sufficiently filled the “gap” in programming for individuals in the Bayshore area.

Activities
The H.A.M. Programs provide after-school or work activities such as bowling, movies, country line dancing, cooking classes, and trips to plays, concerts, and dinners. This program gives our clients the independence of being away from home and enables them to integrate into a new environment.

The H.A.M. Therapeutic Recreation Program has been providing individuals with disabilities in the Bayshore Community an opportunity to improve their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being by offering different activities, programs, and events that are often not available in similar rural communities.
