Last week, Governor Sherrill announced the launch of SimpleFile.NJ.gov, a website that makes it easy for eligible New Jerseyans to get a cash benefit of $1,000 per child under 6. 

Thousands of eligible residents do not typically file taxes and do not realize they can still claim this credit. New Jersey needs your help in ensuring these non-filers can apply for the credit to help them pay for food, housing, child care, and other essentials.

The State of New Jersey developed SimpleFile in partnership with nonprofit Code for America to help people file a free, simple state tax return that doesn’t feel like doing your taxes:

• Takes 15 minutes or less
• Won’t impact eligibility for most other benefits such as SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, or TANF
• No tax documents needed

1. Join the campaign.
Sign up to receive a unique referral link for your organization to track the impact of your outreach.

2. Share with the families you serve.
The SimpleFile Outreach Toolkit is available in 14 languages. Use the materials in whatever ways work best for your organization—text messages, emails, websites, newsletters, benefits portals, social media, or printed materials. Research shows that direct outreach, especially text messages, is the most effective way to reach eligible families.

3. Track your impact.
After you receive your referral link, you'll gain access to a partner dashboard where you can see how many families your outreach reached, how many returns were submitted and accepted, and the impact your organization is making.
