NJ I/DD Youth Transition Conference, "Navigating the Hero's Journey" Call for Proposals

The NJ I/DD Youth Transition Conference invites proposals for presentations, workshops, and panel discussions centered around the theme "Navigating the Hero's Journey."

This conference is designed for young adults living with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, their caregivers, and the professionals who serve them. We are seeking dynamic and engaging presentations that address the challenges and triumphs faced by individuals on their journey to independence and empowerment.

The Hero's Journey is a powerful metaphor that resonates with people from all walks of life. It symbolizes the transformative process of overcoming obstacles, discovering inner strength, and emerging as a hero in one's own life story. At the NJ I/DD Youth Transition Conference, we believe that young adults with disabilities are heroes in their own right, and we are committed to supporting them on their journey to self-discovery and fulfillment.

We invite proposals that explore various aspects of the Hero's Journey, including:

1. Personal Empowerment: Strategies for building self-confidence, self-advocacy skills, and resilience in the face of challenges.

2. Transition Planning: Tools and resources for navigating the transition from school to adulthood, including education, employment, housing, and independent living skills.

3. Family Support: Tips and techniques for caregivers and family members to support the transition process and promote independence.

4. Community Inclusion: Best practices for fostering inclusive communities that embrace diversity and celebrate the contributions of individuals with disabilities.

5. Professional Development: Training opportunities for professionals working with young adults with disabilities, including educators, social workers, therapists, and service providers.

We encourage presenters to share practical strategies, success stories, and innovative approaches that empower young adults to chart their own course and pursue their dreams. Presentations should be interactive, engaging, and accessible to individuals with diverse abilities.

Proposal Submission Guidelines:

Proposals should be no more than 500 words and include a title, abstract, learning objectives, and a brief bio of the presenter(s). Use the Form Link to submit your proposal.

Presenters are encouraged to submit proposals by May 17th, 2024.

Selected presenters will be notified by June7th, 2024.

Join us in empowering young adults with disabilities to embark on their Hero's Journey and unlock their full potential. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
