Young Workers - Get Your Working Papers

According to New Jersey law, all youth workers – under the age of 18 – who accept a job offer need Working Papers to be employed in the state. Remember: Minors only apply for Working Papers after getting an offer of employment.

As of June 1, 2023, the New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL) oversees and administers Working Papers for minors. Minor workers, their caregivers, and employers all fill out their respective parts of our streamlined online application instead of using a paper form.

Working Papers Step By Step

Once a minor gets a job offer, they should apply for Working Papers. The new online application process is designed to be streamlined and efficient for everyone. Here's an overview of how it works. You can download a printable handout of the process here.
