Sibling Support Group – A Safe Space for Connection and Understanding
Overview:
The Sibling Support Group is a free, welcoming, and supportive program designed specifically for elementary and middle school-aged children who have siblings with special needs. This group offers a safe environment where children can share experiences, build friendships, and feel understood by peers who face similar challenges at home.
Purpose:
Having a sibling with a disability or special needs can be both a rewarding and complex experience. This group provides emotional support and guidance while helping siblings:
- Process their thoughts and feelings
- Gain a better understanding of their sibling’s unique needs
- Learn coping strategies and communication skills
- Celebrate their own identity and achievements
Led by:
The group is facilitated by Lily Levering, a sophomore at Red Bank Regional High School and the founder of Educating Across the Spectrum. Inspired by her brother on the autism spectrum, Lily has dedicated herself to creating inclusive environments that promote connection between neurotypical and neurodiverse communities.

What to Expect: Each session includes a mix of fun, engaging activities and reflective discussion.
Topics may include:
- Emotions and self-expression
- Building empathy and understanding
- Managing responsibilities and family dynamics
- Friendship, stress management, and self-care
- Leadership and advocacy

Who Should Attend:
Siblings in grades 2–8 who are looking for a supportive and fun community of peers. Parents are encouraged to register early, as space may be limited.
Why It Matters:
Siblings of individuals with special needs often take on unique roles in their family dynamic. Supporting them emotionally and socially helps foster well-rounded, resilient individuals who feel heard, valued, and empowered.
