This webinar will highlight the advocacy of the I/DD community to educate and inform legislators and public officials. This session will offer information on the background of the advocacy movement, motivation for advocacy and the role of government. A description of the purpose and functions of the Majority Office and its role in legislative committees will be provided; specifically how Bills are developed and written, the processes and prioritization of bills in committees, how to effectively support or oppose a bill, efficient communication practices when addressing a legislator or member of their staff, and effective advocacy styles and strategies.
