Coronavirus (COVID-19): Tips for Dementia Caregivers

Most likely, dementia does not increase risk for COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the new coronavirus, just like dementia does not increase risk for flu. However, dementia-related behaviors, increased age and common health conditions that often accompany dementia may increase risk.

Interfaith Neighbors COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund

The Emergency Fund can be used for utilities, repairs, food and medicine, insurance payments and other essential living expenses. Anyone in need of immediate assistance can call the office at (732) 775-0525 and leave a detailed message. Please note that due to the high volume of calls, your call may not be returned on the day it is received.

Monmouth County residents in need of COVID-19 related emotional support can contact the Monmouth County Department of Health hotline at 732.845.2070. After initial contact with DRCC at the hotline, anyone in need of additional support will be directed to call Mental Health Association of Monmouth County at (732) 542-6422  to be connected to a licensed professional. MHA Monmouth County will answer calls live Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.

NAMI NJ Online Support Groups

NAMI Family Support Group is a 60-90 minute support group for adult friends and family members (18+) of people with mental health conditions. Participants gain support from peers who understand their experience and gain insight into others’ challenges and successes.

What started as a livestream for individuals battling substance abuse and their families has transitioned into a new weekly podcast. HOPE Sheds Light, based out of Toms River, is a family-focused nonprofit that has been supporting those impacted by addiction. It was founded by three men whose sons lost their battle with substance abuse. The podcast, "Rise with HOPE," is available on all platforms.
