Camp Excel Saturday Camp Program

Camp Excel Saturday Camp Program

Camp Excel offers social skills group programs for children ages 5-17 with mild special needs that have social skill challenges. Many of our children have a diagnosis of ADHD, high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, Social Communication Disorder, Tourette’s, Auditory Processing Disorder, Learning Disorders, and more. We focus on developing social skills and the social awareness necessary for better relationships. Our interactive social skills groups are facilitated by Licensed Therapists and assist in improving interpersonal skills. Through the use of group discussion, therapeutic activities, games, and role play, we focus on issues such as Conversational Skills, Problem Solving, Frustration Tolerance, Appropriate Expression of Feelings, Flexibility, Cooperation, Reading Body Language, and Winning and Losing.

Child Social Skills Group Activities

Our Group Discussion helps children with the appropriate expression of thoughts and feelings and learning how to navigate a group conversation. We utilize therapeutic games such as Problem Solving Jeopardy, Angry Animals board game, or Emotions Jenga to address Social Skill topics in a fun way!  We have an interactive, less structured time that allows us to observe each child’s social deficits and intervene in the moment with encouragement and guidance.

The groups will take occasional trips to the bowling alley, an arcade, a trampoline park, and more. Again, allowing children to interact in a natural setting with staff providing supervision and support.

We encourage our children to develop friendships with group members and get together outside the group.
