A 2-mile walk on the Asbury Park boardwalk to call attention to National Youth Homeless Awareness Month. The event is designed to raise awareness about this growing problem, educate individuals to available resources and raise funds to provide shelter, services and programs to homeless youth in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Long standing causes of youth homelessness such as family conflict, abuse and neglect have increased exponentially the past three years. Many kids are rejected by their families because of coming out. Additionally, mental health issues among teens have skyrocketed. Anxiety and depression and the rate of suicides among young people is at an all-time high.
