Love Thy Neighbor (formerly Love in the Name of Christ) is a faith-based initiative in Monmouth County, NJ, with a mission to mobilize the Church to transform lives and communities In the Name of Christ.

Clearinghouse
Love Thy Neighbor screens and validates the needs called into the Clearinghouse from church and agency referrals. Due in part to the high cost of living in our area, the volume of calls from those in need in Monmouth County is great. The Clearinghouse intake and screening process helps to end duplication of services, encourages collaboration between agencies and churches, and ensures churches are good stewards of their finances, as well as Good Samaritans. In addition, the Clearinghouse acts as a referral source to put clients in touch with any other untapped resources that may be of assistance to them in their time of need.

Companions Who Care

The Companions Who Care program partners with local churches to establish teams of volunteers to provide practical, emotional, and spiritual support to older adults in need of assistance. The team approach allows time flexibility for volunteers (typically 1-2 hours per month) while still providing a variety of services. Without this assistance, many older adults face losing their independence.

Christmas Connect
Annual Christmas gift-giving program for seniors and children 12 years of age and under. Recipients are chosen through the Love Thy Neighbor Clearinghouse and various social service agencies. The family information and gift requests are given to area churches and Monmouth County residents who generously call in asking to adopt a family. Don't hesitate - Get involved TODAY! There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a child or lonely senior smile!

Cuts for Christ
The Cuts for Christ program provides haircuts for the needy, with barbers who volunteer their time and talent to provide free haircuts. This program is not only practically oriented, but also satisfies a need for good self-esteem, which is an important element in one's self image. One of our volunteers will go to hospitals and homes to cut hair for those who cannot get out because of an illness or disability. For more information, or if you are interested in volunteering, please call 732-542-7012.
