Wounded Healers: An Exploratory Group for Students and Aspiring Helping Professionals

The Wounded Healers Program was designed by Kristy Mathews and Amanda Fresnics, mental health clinicians at NJ Center for the Healing Arts, for aspiring, emerging and experienced helping professionals, in psychology, counseling, social work, holistic health, nursing, and medical fields. The students and aspiring healers group offers a safe place for participants to explore the many facets that shaped their current selves and the possibilities for future growth. Our goal is for each aspiring healer to tune into their intuitive wisdom to effect transformation in others by exploring the wounded self in relation to the desire to guide, teach, and heal others. Together we will begin to explore individual self-identity, then dive into inner child work while deepening our understanding and acceptance of the way family-of-origin has shaped our personal and professional paths, and explore the way in which professional healers can, and perhaps should, continue to be both the "wounded" and the "healer." The Wounded Healers Group will consist of 13 sessions in total, with 3 sessions per month. We will begin with one introductory session (separate from the information session) and then will focus on one 'part' per month: 'Identity' is the first part, 'Inner Child Work' the second, 'Family-of-Origin' the third, and 'Healer as Professional' as the final segment of the program.
