Urgent Message from Affordable Housing Alliance: Recorded Message Scam

Urgent Message from Affordable Housing Alliance:

We have been made aware that some of our clients have received a recorded message from a number masquerading as one of our numbers.

The recorded message states that “your electric service will be disconnected within the next 15 minutes if you don't call this number 800-931-1968 and make a payment.”

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE CALLS ARE NOT FROM THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING ALLIANCE. IT IS A SCAM KNOWN AS “SPOOFING.”

WE DO NOT THREATEN OUR CLIENTS WITH DISCONNECTION OF THEIR SERVICES, SINCE WE DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY OR CAPABILITY OF DOING SO.

Spoofing is the act of disguising a communication from an unknown source as being from a known, trusted source. Spoofing can apply to emails, phone calls, and websites, or can be more technical, such as a computer spoofing an IP address, Address Resolution Protocol (ARP), or Domain Name System (DNS) server.

For scammers, spoofing is a tool for getting information or bypassing call blockers. Typically, scammers use spoofing to pose as a bank, business, or government agency in order to trick people into giving up personal or financial information.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE 100% SURE OF WHO YOU ARE DEALING WITH BEFORE PROVIDING ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION.
