Overview of Family Engagement Coordinator

The Family Engagement Coordinator provides support services to parents, guardians and families of court-involved youth in Monmouth County.  This position oversees the Youth Peer Leader(s) and reports to the Family Division Manager. This is for one contracted position whereby compensation is made based on service-hours billed. The starting rate of pay is $25.00 per hour not to exceed $40,000.00 annually. This is a grant funded position through 12/31/19 that is subject to the availability of state appropriations and satisfactory performance for continuation.  
 
Monmouth County has developed a comprehensive, multi-prong approach to engage families of court-involved youth by providing peer support to parents/guardians in court, overseeing the youth peer leader’s activities, and development/coordination of a parent advisory group focused on system improvement strategies.  The primary work location for this position is at the Monmouth County Courthouse and, at times, will likely include additional sites throughout Monmouth County where Family Engagement events and activities are hosted. The anticipated start date is Monday, June 3rd, 2019.

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION: Associates degree from an accredited university/college (prefer areas of study in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology or related field). Applicants may substitute 3+years professional experience in related field for the education requirements.  

EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of-and experience with the juvenile-criminal justice system, court proceedings and practices. Experience providing peer-support services and family engagement services in a community-based and/or non-profit organization. Experience as a parent/caregiver/loved-one of a child who has been involved with the court system is desired. Bi-Lingual skills are helpful.  

JOB SPECIFICS: Cultivates family engagement skills and tools to increase the quality of interactions between families and the courts. Monitors the Youth Peer Leader’s interactions with youth on probation. Emphasizes Families’ autonomy and the value of mutually respected partnerships with families by soliciting their input via satisfaction surveys/focus groups. Support and educate parents of youth in detention in their efforts to advocate for their child and strengthen relationships. Develop and oversee the parent advisory group on juvenile justice system improvement and assist in advancing family friendly court practices and policies.  

DRIVER’S LICENSE: A valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to the Department of Homeland Security, US citizenship and Immigration Services Regulations.
