Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a certified special education teacher sponsored by Parents of Autistic Children (POAC) Free
If you have a preschool aged child (between zero and 5 years old) and are looking for hands on training in Applied Behavior Analysis, contact POAC about our Mommy/Daddy & me program. It takes place on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in five week sessions. If you have attended training and still need some help applying the concepts, this program is for you.

Parent to Parent: Family Training on AD/HD

Parent to Parent: Family Training on AD/HD was developed by Linda Smith, Beth Kaplanek, and Mary Durheim over a period of more than two years. Parent to Parent provides educational information and support for individuals and families dealing with AD/HD and learning to navigate the challenges of AD/HD across the lifespan. Courses are offered in communities across the country. The curriculum was developed by parents who have lived the experience, but who also have had access to the best researchers and practitioners in the country. The entire course takes about 14 hours of time and is usually offered as a seven-week class, meeting for two hours once a week. Participants receive extensive materials to support them, including articles, reference materials, handouts, and homework assignments. The curriculum is very structured and includes information on: •Overview of AD/HD •Assessment to Multimodal Treatment •Managing the Impact(s) of AD/HD on the Family •Developing Parenting Strategies and Positive Behavior Interventions •Educational Rights for Your Child with AD/HD •Building an Education Team: Bridging the Gap Between Home and School •Resiliency, Teen Challenges & Future Success

Safety and Emergency Preparedness for Parents and School Personnel

This training is for parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, and anyone involved with the care and education of a child or adult with autism. Safety, emergency, and crisis intervention are topics that are sometimes uncomfortable to think about. Being prepared for such situations is the best way to minimize the negative effects. This workshop will help prepare for emergencies and lower risk. These issues and more will be addressed: Autism spectrum risk awareness & management Wandering Preparing for an emergency Safety in the home Safe travel Alerting neighbors 911 data base alerts Developing a handout Sharing de-escalation techniques Working with the school district to upgrade safety and lower risk School support network for spectrum students Safety and risk life skills education for students and adults with autism Working proactively with schools and law enforcement agencies.

This presentation will provide: • an overview of inclusion • the benefits of inclusion • effective inclusion practices • guidelines for successful inclusion Effective inclusion practices such as positive behavior support, classroom management, collaboration, frequent progress monitoring, and data collection to ensure academic, behavioral, and social gains will be reviewed. This presentation will assist parents, regular education teachers, special education teachers and administrators in identifying the practices and supports necessary for successful inclusion.
